Recipe Reader Sleep Options

posted Oct 14, 2009, 11:32 AM by Unknown user   [ updated Feb 15, 2012, 7:57 AM by Unknown user ]

If you turn the Recipe Reader over on its back side you will see a label with a picture of an orange pot on it. It will have a combination of 2 letters on it, of which will either be UL or CE.

If UL is listed, your Recipe Reader may periodically enter a Sleep Mode to conserve battery life.  If your Recipe Reader is asleep, touch the LCD screen or press the Power Button for a response.

To ensure the screen stays on while you are cooking, you can adjust the Dim Time and Sleep Time on the Options screen.  We recommend selecting "Never" for your Dim Time and Sleep Time.

To navigate to your Options screen, press the More button on the bottom menu, then press the Options button to load the Options screen.

  • Please wait until Recipe Reader has booted all the way to the Cookbooks screen before you connect it your computer and try to sync it.
  • Don't forget to press the silver Sync button when the software window says "Ready to sync."
  • Use your email address (rather than your Key Ingredient username) when prompted to sign in to the syncing software.
  • If you've already installed the appropriate software and synced your Recipe Reader successfully, and you get a "No Error" or "Invalid Serial Number" message, you might be connecting your Recipe Reader before the serial numbers have loaded (it usually takes about 30 seconds for the serial numbers to load).  To see if your serial numbers are loading:
    • Disconnect your Recipe Reader from your computer & close the syncing software
    • Reboot your Recipe Reader
      • If you turn the Recipe Reader over on its back side you will see a Recipe Reader label with a picture of an orange pot on it. It will have a combination of 2 letters on it, of which will either be UL or CE. Depending on which you have, please follow the instructions accordingly.
      • If UL is listed, hold the gray manual power button down until you hear it beep (about 2 seconds). Then click the gray power button again to power it back on.
      • If CE is listed, simply click the gray power button to power off the Recipe Reader (it will not beep). Then click the gray power button again to power it back on.
    • Navigate to your Options screen (on bottom menu press the "More" button, then go to "Options")
    • In the lower right corner of your Options screen, the serial numbers should appear
      • If UL is listed on the back of your Recipe Reader, 3 lines of tiny serial numbers should appear.
      • If CE is listed, only 2 lines of tiny serial numbers should appear.
    • If the numbers are there, connect to the Recipe Reader to your computer and restart the syncing software
      • if they are not there, or you still receive an error message, please contact us at help@keyingredient.com or via our Live Help service.

Removing the Protective Film from Your Recipe Reader

posted Jun 2, 2009, 3:04 PM by Unknown user   [ updated Feb 14, 2012, 1:50 PM by Unknown user ]

If the touch function on your Recipe Reader is unresponsive, check to see if the factory installed protective film has been removed from the screen.  That film was not intended to remain on your Recipe Reader and can cause it to behave erratically.

To remove the film, pull back on the white tab in the upper left corner of your Recipe Reader's screen.  If the tab has come off, just use your fingernail to gently loosen a corner of the film and then peel back.

If you would like a order a custom-made, Screen Protector for your Recipe Reader, please contact us as help@keyingredient.com or via our Live Help service.

"Jigsawing" Images on Recipe Reader

If you scroll too quickly or choose a command more than once, before the Recipe Reader has a chance to respond, the photos might appear distorted for a second.  It's best to select an option on the touchscreen once and wait a second for the Recipe Reader to respond to your request.

Removing Pre-Installed Cookbooks

posted May 15, 2009, 11:28 AM by Unknown user   [ updated Feb 14, 2012, 1:56 PM by Unknown user ]

You do not have to keep the preloaded recipes on your Recipe Reader.  While you cannot delete them yourself, we are happy to update your account on our servers.

If you would like the pre-installed cookbooks removed, send your request to help@keyingredient.com. Please include the email address you used to set up your Key Ingredient account.

All of the preloaded recipes will be removed the next time you sync your Recipe Reader; however, if there were individual recipes you liked, you can still find them and add them to your collection.  Just log into your Key Ingredient account and use the Live Recipe Search bar at the top of the page.

Can't Find Recipe Reader (Windows XP)

posted May 11, 2009, 8:37 AM by Unknown user   [ updated Feb 14, 2012, 1:57 PM by Unknown user ]

Problem description:

After installing the Key Ingredient sync software, the Key Ingredient application cannot find the Recipe Reader.

Resolution:
  1. Open the "Control Panel" by clicking the "Start" menu at the bottom left corner of your screen and selecting "Control Panel".
  2. We recommend clicking on the item labeled "Switch to Classic View" on the left column.
  3. Double click on the "System" icon.
  4. Click the tab labeled "Hardware", then click the button labeled "Device Manager".
  5. Under the item called "Ports (COM & LPT)" check for any items that have an exclamation mark or question mark.  If one does, double-click on it and select "Reinstall Driver."  Allow Windows to search for the driver and reinstall it.
